Sarah Mast, Professional Biography

Sarah Mast has a passion for quilts and fabrics. After years of creating custom quilts for friends and family, Sarah's hobby grew into a more established business. Responding to the latest trends for custom shower gifts and handmade home accessories, she opened the Sarah's Peace Quilt Services store on East Capitol Drive in Milwaukee in late 2004. In 2008, Sarah returned to her private services status and closed the store to better serve her individual clients.

It was an easy evolution.  Sarah grew up in the heart of Indiana Amish country, where quilting is a way of life. She participated in Amish and Mennonite quilting bees from an early age. Later at Indiana State University, Sarah studied public and applied history with a focus on history in public areas and educational displays.  It was at ISU that Sarah learned about textile preservation.  After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree, she enrolled in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Masters level certification program in Museum Studies/Public History.  Coursework included object handling and display of textiles.

Combining her love of quilting and fabrics with an education in textiles and restoration, Sarah began to create and restore custom pieces in her free time.  She now devotes the majority of her time to this craft.
